More than 80% of U.S. businesses are now involved international business transactions. In New York City alone, there are more than 3,000 multinational companies. Yet few have recognized that the fundamental rules of success in their respective industries have changed. Efficient manufacturing and market responsiveness used to be enough. No longer. Success in today’s complex global business environment requires a “transnational” mind set. Today’s executive responsible for a geographic region, product line, or corporate function must rapidly and decisively react to changing market conditions around the globe. They must also effectively interact with foreign cultures. In order to succeed, the transnational leader must frequently manage or work with teams of company staff or joint venture partners on the same project in different parts of the world. It is not unusual for projects to function 24 hours a day and 7 days a week as project teams blanket the world’s time zones. |

The transnational professional must rapidly digest and analyze vast amounts of informationlearn and adapt on the run. The foresight, determination, and conviction of the successful entrepreneur are prerequisite attributes for the transnational leader.
