Professor Bullen likes to focus on the people side of technology. "If there is truth in the adage, 'knowledge is power,' then it is clear why people don't want to share knowledge. It is one thing to build a groupware system, but first companies need to teach people to collaborate. An organization that really wants collaboration on the network must ensure that its management reviews and formal reward systems encourage and rewards teamwork and sharing," she said. "The technology can't do it alone!"

Professor Bullen was co-founder of the trail-blazing Center for Information Systems Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which brought 35 corporations together to support IT research.

Information technology systems are at the root of everything driving today's business-from database marketing techniques to financial services. Bullen believes that MBAs who understand how to use these tools bring a competitive advantage to their organizations. Professor Bullen came to Fordham from the Sloan School Center for Information Systems Research at MIT. Her business career included six years at Arthur D. Little, Inc. In 1986 she co-edited The Rise of Managerial Computing and has been author and co-author of numerous articles and books on computer-supported cooperative work, electronic communications, critical success factors and managing the IS function.
