Professor Blake has been a manuscript editor for the Journal of Finance and a manager at Time-Life Books. Since then, he has had an active consulting career with companies such as: Orange & Rockland Utilities, Inc.; The Government of Saudi Arabia; John Wiley & Sons, Inc.; Capital Management Associates, Inc.; The Nassau Group, Inc.; The Society of Actuaries.

His academic experience includes: Joseph Keating, S.J., Distinguished Professor of Finance September 2005 - present; Fordham University Professor of Finance September 2003 - August 2005; Fordham University Associate Professor of Finance September 1998 - August 2003; Fordham University Assistant Professor of Finance June 1992 - August 1998; Fordham University Instructor of Finance (Full Time) September 1991 - May 1992; New York University Instructor of Finance (Part Time) September 1988 - May 1991.
