Spotlight: January is National Mentoring Month! We hope that you will consider becoming a mentor to a current student or a recent graduate. A strong network can make all the difference in career success. Intelligence, confidence, professional experience and a respected degree are extremely important, but any successful executive will tell you that having a support system of advisers is key. Fordham’s Black/Hispanic MBA Association (BHMBAA), through a partnership with New York University’s Stern Black and Hispanic Alumni Network (BHAN) and the New York Chapter of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA), is now launching a mentoring program for recent graduates. This partnership, the Alliance Development Committee, pairs members of NSHBMA and select alumni of NYU and Fordham University with recent NYU and Fordham graduates. The mentoring program combines advanced professional development with meaningful community involvement to create a structured and beneficial enterprise. Through a second mentoring program, led by the GBA administration, you have the opportunity to mentor GBA first year students. This mentoring program is in its third year and provides alumni mentors to approximately 30 select MBA candidates. The long-term goal of both programs is to build a worldwide network of GBA alumni who are recognized in the business community as natural mentors to their employees, co-workers and fellow alumni. Mentor responsibilities vary between the programs, but are minimal. For more information about mentoring a student, contact Stephanie Cziczo at cziczo@fordham.edu.
