Fordham announces a new
Master's Degree in Investor Relations (MIR)
PURPOSE:
Investor relations is rapidly becoming a more central and strategic function of corporations. Today, IR professionals need a complex variety of skills, including a knowledge of strategic context and an ability to adapt to the volatile information environment surrounding global capital markets.
Fordham GBA is uniquely positioned to deliver a world-class program in investor relations. Building on its strengths in accounting, media, and finance, and collaborating with Fordham Law School, GBA offers not only cross-disciplinary academic resources, but also unparalleled access to the most prominent money center in the world--New York City.
The Fordham MIR program is created specifically for:
- Experienced business executives seeking advanced training in investor relations for enterprises which are already publicly traded or which are preparing for initial public offerings
- Individuals seeking a career path in investor relations who have prior business or P.R. experience
- Recent university graduates with bachelor's degrees in IR-related disciplines, including Accounting, Finance, IT, Communications, Language Studies, Marketing or Law
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND STRUCTURE:
GBA's Master of Science in Investor Relations (MIR) is a new 39-credit, cohort program that is scheduled one weekend per month (Friday – Sunday). The program can be completed in 16 months.
In small, personalized classes and using an experiential approach, MIR students will gain:
- Basic skills in financial accounting and finance and investments
- In-depth orientation to the information technologies that support and influence investor relations
- Fundamentals of the ethical dimensions of the investor relations function
- Fundamentals of clear and effective communication using a variety of media
- Knowledge of the legal environment governing the practice of investor relations and how to stay current
- Training in strategic relationship management and communications
MIR Program Components:
- Orientation: Experts from IR-related fields will offer perspectives from the world of practice. Pre-requisite courses will be offered as needed for students without prior business study.
- Fall Term (9 credits): Principles of Modern Finance, Financial Statement Analysis, Media and Communications Industries
- Spring Term (12 credits): Corporate Governance, Global Financial Markets: Concepts, Functions and Trading, Contemporary Legal Issues in Business Organizations, Contemporary Financial Reporting
- Summer Term (9 credits): Global Industry Analysis and Strategic Planning, Corporate and Securities Law, Information Technology for Investor Relations, Symposium on the Ethics of Investor Relations I
- Fall Term (9 credits): Web Technologies, Communications and Public Relations Concepts: Investor Relations, Symposium on Ethics of Investor Relations II, 2 Electives
Graduates of the MIR program will join a network of more than 14,000 graduates of Fordham Graduate School of Business Administration and more than 150,000 Fordham University alumni worldwide.
